2006:
Nov 18: Gypsy & Balkan Campfire Jam Session and Ceilidh
St Pauls Church Centre, Marylebone, London NW1
The LGO was joined by many other musicians to play tunes for this lively
ceilidh, with Balkan and eastern dances led by Ljiljana Grkinic. Many
members of Maspindzeli, the London Georgian Choir, were also present
and sang us some of their striking harmony pieces.
A very enjoyable concert in the college's excellent theatre - this performance
for 'Eltham College Society' (senior pupils and staff of the college) was received
with enormous enthusiasm, many of the students being new to Eastern
Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, South London
Click here for a photo report of this huge and wonderfully varied summer
outdoor show, and also the picture opposite for a link to our gallery.
July 7: Summer Concert and Gyspy Ceiligh
Dragon Hall, Covent Garden, Central London
The Dragon Hall was sold-out for this event, with an excellent reception to
our concert, followed by dancing led by special guest Ljiljana Grkinic.
June 18: BBC Three Counties Radio - Rokker Radio show
A group of us travelled to Luton to appear on this new weekly radio show on
Gypsy & Traveller news and issues, where we played live and spoke to host
Jake Bowers. See the Press page (click again on Events & News) for an article.
May 21: Notting Hill Arts Club: Radio Gagarin
An appearance at this popular club night of Gypsy, Balkan, Russian and
Klezmer performance and music.
Mar 30: 'Finding Romanistan': London International Gypsy Film Festival
Genesis Cinema, Whitechapel, East London
We were very pleased to feature at the closing night party of this excellent
London-wide festival (see www.ligff.org.uk), to which a full and enthusiastic
crowd turned out to see us. See the photo gallery by clicking on the image.
Feb 12: Gypsy Campfire Jam, Le Quecumbar
The second jam session at this Gypsy Jazz venue, led by Gundula Gruen
with special guests and members of the LGO.
Dec 6: RelayNET fundraising event at The Yacht Club
Victoria Embankment, Central London
This took place on a boat moored on the Thames - the novelties of the setting
included some ceilings too low to fit the double bass, and playing whilst the
boat gently rocked to the changing tides...
Our first formal concert, for invited friends and acquaintances, followed by
lively socialising and dancing. Photos in the Gallery - see right for link.
Dec 3: Chatsworth Market Festival
This, our first public performance, was a very promising start indeed -
despite the bitter cold of this outdoor festival in the depths of winter, we soon
drew a large, enthusiastic and dancing crowd from the surrounding streets.
Nov 13: Gypsy Campfire Jam, Le Quecumbar
An informal jam session led by Gundula Gruen and the LGO.
January: The LGO is formed, and the rehearsing begins!
